I was shocked (maybe I should just report when I am not shocked) by the recent air travel guideline to the USA: no nude pictures. As you know, I have been painting the figure for the past few months and my telephone is chockful of naked bodies. Not pornographic, but certainly enough to evoke notice, maybe even a little prison time. Actually, I will need to buy a new phone with almost nothing on it if I decide to visit. |

| I have an equal number of photos of flowers, elephants, and dogs. I have pictures and films of everything that inspires me. I see the sunshine on the rim of a yellow glass; the gentle throbbing of the light streaming between the chenille lines of the screen; moonlight through the lace curtains in the bathroom at 3 AM. I read an article on James Turrell, the true light artist – and it triggered my eye to see these “physical” phenomenon. |

| Last week, we went to a show about flowers at the Foundation Magnani-Rocca outside of Parma – “FLORA”. It has over 150 examples of very different floral pictures: all by Italian artists. The show was interesting; every artist saw flowers differently. From Depero’s barn-sized arrangement of flowers in painted metal to Boldini’s lady’s arm with blossoms, there was very little similarity. It was a happy, rather soothing show which made me glad for springtime. |

| We rounded it out with a lunch in the Bistro on the grounds – a glass building with vines, deep green, climbing across the ceiling. I want to have that in my kitchen, but Blair points out we only have two small windows “you need light”. I sighed and ate my octopus. |

| I got new paper to paint on this week. At a second-hand store we found an old, 19th century letterpress dictionary from Florence. It’s delicious, absorbent paper has the nicest color and tooth. I am a little sad to tear out its pages (there are more than 300), but will commit it to posterity. |

| Posterity is such an important thing: to communicate ahead and ahead to future generations. It’s importatnt to touch this generation, where our conversation creates new connections in the universe. I visit with a friend about this over the telephone – not worried about my nude photos. |

| Magnani-Rocca is witness to this posterity, choosing to show rather off-beat artwork it sees as important. Magnani had particular ideas about art and music, and his foundation was built on those principles. It is an important stop on our visitors’ itinerary. The eccentricities of Magnini are manifest, and I say “good thing!” |

Something you made, or feel particularly inspired by. You have about 5 minutes to present, and we'll ooh, ahh, or answer questions you have. You can also come and see how we work before diving in. Just show up on Zoom at a minute or two before the hour.
