I was fresh out of inspiration much of this week, as the fog descends on Northern Italy.  The temperature hovers at about 55 degrees (12 celsius), as I fondly recall swimming in the river.   It seems like a million years ago, as that transition from summer to winter always does.  Why can’t I carry the memory of a hot, steamy night into a cold damp-ish one?

We’re planning our escape to Stimigliano this week, hopefully for the winter.   Berlino will go to University in Stimigliano, hopefully.  There’s a dog training school in the next town, and we need to get our 60 pound charge under control.  He loves being with other dogs, so hopefully that will be an allure while he learns to “come”.  It’s been difficult to find him in the foggy yard at night, and then round him up into the house.

I am looking for things around the house to paint, but interest eludes me.  Bernie barks at passing cars.  He was delighted to show his most reactive behavior against an itinerant peddler today – we’d somehow escaped the scourge of door-to-door salesmen with the move to the new house.   We now own a prayer rug and black stretch pants.

I wasn’t selected as resident artist at the Erie Canal, which was a crazy thing to hope for, but I will continue to hope for crazy things. What is life when you can’t hope or try anymore?

We bought a new plaid blanket and a jacket I thought was better than it really is, from the junk store.  We took Berlino for a walk by the river, which had lovely sounds.  His entire underside was covered with burrs, which he didn’t seem to mind but looked mighty uncomfortable in certain areas.

I am pressing fall leaves in my favorite pressing book:  Enciclopedia della Pesca.  I put the book in a saggy chair, so not only are the leaves being pressed in the book, but also by my weight.   I am pressing them as we speak.

The SUNDAY ART SALON starts back up this week.  Come show us your art, whatever it may be.
