Why is it that nothing happens for months and months, then suddenly in one week, everything exciting transpires?

This week we shared a fabulous painting workshop with a young woman.  We painted still lifes, portraits, landscapes and abstracts.  I took chances on new ideas and painted more than usual.  She improved and let go day by day. Progress for all.

We took Thursday off to go to Rome.  If you’re traveling all the way from California, it’s a shame not to pay a visit to the Eternal City, so nearby.  So, we parked at the Borghese Gardens and walked to a show I’ve been wanting to see at the Palazzo Medici:  Gribouillage / Scarabocchio. Da Leonardo da Vinci a Cy Twombly  -- that is, DOODLING from Leonardo to Cy Twombly.

Our painter is going to study Animation in Art College next year, and the doodling was a perfect fit.  There were a couple of animation pieces that impressed her, along with the sketches from Michelangelo and Leonardo.  I was most impressed by a couple of Dubuffets and a Basquiat.  Blair loved the reverse side of a Bellini altarpiece on which the artist scrawled naughty devils.  We added our own monikers to the grand graffiti-ed wall.
Berlino resting after his trip to Rome    Laurie Fox Pessemier  Acrylic/cardboard  10 x 10"   25 x 25 cm 125.00
I would be remiss not to mention how good Berlino was on the trip – walking the streets of Rome like a pro, initiating conversations with people of all countries.  He slept very well that night.

The poppies are in bloom here in Sabina, and tall gorgeous deep purple iris dot the hillsides. If you’ve not visited Italy in the late spring, you’re missing the best fields of wild flowers you can imagine.  We have met new friends here in the village, and a baby, Alba, was born to an Italian/English couple we know.  It is so exhilarating to be out and about, while we think of the beautiful future ahead.

Included in honor of the WOLF that sat quietly with his owner at a restaurant we were at  - he had sparkly yellow eyes
