Artnotes: Just a Thrill

Flowers Floating in a Copper Basin  Laurie Fox   Pessemier  acrylic/canvas 13 x 13"  33 x 33 cm  350.00
I was standing in the kitchen, thinking about dinner, when the breeze blew sweetly on my neck with such affection I turned to see who was there.  It was Earth, that Faun that seduces me to the swimming hole and makes me paint his flowers.

Like much of the world, Italy continues to experience scorching temperatures.  We are lucky to be in the hills, with breezes and shady trees.   Mornings are spent in the back yard, shielded by the house.  After our siesta, the front porch is covered and Harika can bark at everyone who passes.  It is an impossible habit to break, because each person she barks at walks on by, quickly. “It worked, Mom, see?’  You can see the satisfaction in her face.
La Quiete Fall  Blair Pessemier  Acrylic/canvas  12 x 12"  30 x 30cm  350.00
There are many projects around the house.  Today I took away the wood from the south side, so the stairs are opened up; yesterday I cleaned up the north side and put planters along the wall.  I pull weeds.  I water.  And water.
"Nasturtiums"  "Roses in a Copper Pot"  Laurie Fox Pessemier  Colored Pencil on Antique Paper  8 x 14"  35 x 20cm  90.00
There’s a day camp up near the church, and about 2 dozen kids swim, ride bikes, play on the gym set every day.   There is a petting farm.  Harika is enthralled with the rabbits – she used to chase them at Hammonasset in Connecticut as a pup.  It all makes me want to go to the camp.  Adults have a harder time having fun.
Flowers at Villa Luisa  Blair Pessemier  Acrylic/paper  16 x 16"  41 x 41cm  490.00
We “plunged” several times this week at the swimming hole.  We both made pictures, as well, but for me it takes away from the pure pleasure of being there.  It is hard to draw or paint without being judgmental about the outcome.  Cold water is just a thrill.
