Our travel plans to France have been dashed to the wayside – our documents are “not in order” (due to office closings) and now it isn’t possible to travel on our US passport in Europe. For the first time, an entire summer has been spent in Italy. Are we happy about it? Not joyful, but content. We are embracing the disruption.

Roccamalatina continues to be one of the cooler spots in Italy. Our main floor is always fresh, and after a walk in the sun, Harika and I both lie on the tile floor to cool down. We have terrific tile floors in this house, arranged in patterns of cream, burgundy and grey straight out of the 1910s. I think it is the time spent on these floors that have inspired my new series of work: COLLAGE.

I am going to present my collage work at Pessemier’s Sunday Salon this week. I need input. I am hoping there will be other artists who participate – we’ve had 9 artists on each the last 2 Sundays. I LOVE THE SALON, and can see us doing it forever. Please come and show us what you’ve been up to? Blair and I are adjusting to the new “normal”. We’ve been spending lots of time talking with friends via Skype, or Zoom, or WhatsApp. There are things that are really ok about it – and I can see its benefits in education, particularly at University level. I am painting (or collaging) online weekly.
The only drawback I see in virtual talk is that I am not spending any time with people I don’t like. As one of our Salon-ites pointed out last week, it’s those people who we don’t get along with who bring our own (negative) characteristics to our attention. Constant ease just makes us lazy. Holy smokes! After 2020, we should all be geniuses.
