"Southern Port" Laurie Fox PESSEMIER Acrylic on canvas 9.5 x 14 inches This painting was begun from the window in Port Vendres, France and finished with the help of photos in the studio (you can only paint so much during a weekly apartment rental). Port Vendres is a pleasure port (see "Morning Light") and a commercial port. Vegetables and fruite from Africa arrive here; their European counterparts are shipped off to other ports along the Mediterranean. Collioure and Port Vendres are famous for their olives, cork and anchovies. Blair and I love the maritime transport theme and chose our Port Vendres venue in hopes a large vessel like this would show up. It was guided in by tugboats, and all the town came out to watch.
